Youth Shop

Teaching mechanics in a fun, safe environment.

Every Thursday from 3:30pm - 6:00pm.

Youth spend the first half of their time in the shop volunteering in order to earn parts and personal instruction during the second half of the shop time.

Volunteer work includes cleaning bikes, stripping bikes, organizing and cleaning parts, and cleaning the shop. Volunteer work is structured to teach lessons about bicycle anatomy, proper use of tools, basic mechanical concepts, organization, and professionalism.

Participants then fix their own bikes with the assistance of instructors and volunteers. We encourage instructors to keep their hands clean and let youth do the work so that they learn with their hands and enjoy the fruits of their labors when they leave the shop with a repaired bike.

Who participates

Youth Shop is open to all youth ages 12 to 18. We work with partner organizations to encourage participation from youth with social and economic barriers.
